CBT/Trauma-Informed Care
At Champion State of Mind, our main therapeutic approach is a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Trauma-Informed Care.
CBT focuses on exploring relationships among a person's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. During CBT, the therapist will actively work with a person to uncover unhealthy patterns of thought and how they may be causing self-destructive behaviors and beliefs. By addressing these patterns, the client and therapist can work together to develop productive ways of thinking that will produce healthier behaviors and beliefs. Studies of CBT have shown it to be an effective treatment for a variety of mental disorders. Individuals who undergo CBT show changes in brain activity, suggesting that this therapy actually improves your brain functioning as well.
Trauma-Informed Care is also a foundational approach used when working with clients by acknowledging and responding to how all types of trauma have affected each person within their lives. Trauma, in itself, has no boundaries. It can affect anyone. From abuse, natural disasters, accidents, war, and violence, trauma can have a life-long impact on someones ability to function. By recognizing the effects of trauma, we are better equipped to personalize each clients treatment and provide further education to promote personal growth.
